Now staying in a posh hotel is a reasonable way to start a tour down under
but it begins to get boring, and lacks a feeling of belonging.
So I looked up a few backpacker hostels (eugh! - shared dormatories and
scuzzy 'bathrooms') and decide I'm not quite ready to join the goatie
brigade. Besides which, I'm a Flashpacker, not Backpacker.
A look in the Sydney Morning Herald yields a myriad of apartments for lease,
and flat-shares.
Fancy an en-suite double with Pool and Gym and views overlooking Darling
Harbour and the City for £100 per week? No problem! I found a chap
who was OK with a short term share (its difficult finding the right kind of
lodger apparently and he's thinking of moving himself).
So
say hi to Paul, my "roomie" (Australians shorten many words - this
means room-mate). A Yorkshire Lancashire (sorry Paul!) lad with a sharp sense of humour who
works for an Internet grocers downtown.
The apartment is on the 17th floor and features a large lounge and
kitchenette, washer and dryer, dishwasher and push button controlled electric
curtains!
I view this as a stay of execution from the hostels I will inevitably have to
face in my travels...
