Sydney is wedged between the Tasman Sea to the west and a once impenetrable barrier of 'Blue Mountains' to the east. The latter are in fact sandstone formations which raised from the the sea when the Grand Canyon was a mere trickle in the Nevada Desert. Having received numerous emails asking how hot and dry it is down under, let me tell you that Sydney has more rain per annum than London, and that most of it has been falling since I arrived - its also cold as its mid-winter. Now, not being superstitious, I doubt I brought it with me (it was baking when I left London). Hence exploring the surrounding countryside, whether wet or dry, has become a priority... And heading north to the hot and dry bits your emails refer to is not far off... |
