Twin Falls edge.jpg (115697 bytes)This is the highlight of Kakadu for me, and I think most of the rest of the group.

Twin Falls is accessed via a dirt road and then by a hike up the sandstone walls of the park.

At the top, there are numerous tiers of rock pools. But to reach the lower ones Twin Falls climbing The Chimney.jpg (50867 bytes)one has to face 'The Chimney' - a narrow split between the rocks which takes a considerable amount of courage to engage first time.  To get down, you use you hands against one wall and shuffle your back down the opposite wall - its claustrophobic and there are infrequent Twin Falls gorge 3.jpg (56276 bytes)footholds.  30m down we find ourselves overlooking the gorge and spend a couple of hours marvelling at the incredible scale of the gap carved in the sandstone over several hundred million years.

Tom takes us to our campsite - where we eat kangaroo and crocodile stir fry.  And Tom breaks out a harmonica and guitar to sing us a few local ballads - turns out he was a busker in years gone by!  He tells us of how one day a guy put a dollar in his hat as he played, then returned ten minutes later, and took the dollar back.  After this, Tom decided to become a tour guide and sticks to singing Paul Kelly around the campfire...
