On
to the really touristy part of the park (it has a tarmac road all the way
there...) we visit Ubirr - site of some of the Worlds best, and oldest, rock
paintings.
Here
we discover some of the stories which the Aboriginal tribal culture is built on
- of the two sisters who become crocodiles and of the Rainbow serpent
whichcreated much of the land and sky during the time of dreaming.
Its a fascinating area, and the pictures, while basic, are nonetheless awe
inspiring bearing in mind their age - some date back 5000 years or more!

A
climb to the top of the Ubirr rock rewards us with some spectacular views of the
park.
