Arriving at Western Australia's capital, Perth, we head for the beach and enjoy a few chilled out (though balmy hot) nights at Scarborough Beach. A white sand beach with warm crystal clear waters. Surprisingly empty too! After two days of searing outback travel, we're more than ready to cool off - and waste no time diving in.

Here we hire out a motel room a hundred metres from the beach. And this becomes our retreat and base from which we make a few forays into Perth to sample the local nightlife.

Perth is a small, cosmopolitan city. Its a mess in terms of traffic but very laid back. We like the sand-gropers (slang for WA folk).

We meet Phils cousin and eat at his stylish Italian restaurant - Monza. We visit a British pub, complete with authentic skin-headed thugs, and visit a 'club' which consists of someone's living room with trendy furniture.

Despite the delights of Perth, we have only a week or so left of this tour and we're keen to see the surrounding natural attractions. We head North to the Pinnacles Desert to view strange sandstone formations and to practice our Windsurfing.

Then we say Ciao to Phil for a few days as Isobel and I head South to the Margaret River area to attempt surfing and to enjoy the coastal scenery.

Returning to sunny Perth, we spend a couple of days in the sub-town of Freemantle, a port town with a true cafe culture which provides the perfect location to mentally and physically prepare for our departure from Australia - our home for some six months now.

Our final couple of nights - so we choose a room which (after a little pressure and negotiation) turns into a two storey town-house with a timber decked balcony that overhangs the marina.

Its quiet and serene... a great location to reminisce on the past half year.

Fittingly; as the sun sets, we head off West, across the Indian Ocean...

Farewell Australia... Hello Asia...

Thanks:

So, cheers Phil - You the man! You is Taliban!  We thoroughly enjoyed your company and laugh a minute commentary on the surrounding scenery.
Wishing you good luck with your travels, and looking forward to seeing you (and hopefully Jamsie) in London in the Autumn.

P.S. If you ever get around to mixing that CD you promised, I'll be surprised... no, sorry, I'll be grateful.
