So south we go, reaching Queenstown late afternoon.

A brief drive through the town confirm our suspicion that the town itself is too brash to stay in, so we head out to the north and stumble on a motel which, for NZ$90 per night (UK£30) gives us a hillside lakeview room complete with picture windows. (For those visiting, its The Apollo Motor Inn - room 42...)

This place is run by a family of Koreans, one of whom drives us to our accommodation in a golf buggy - he likes the camera attention so drives like a lunatic on two wheels half the time, barely missing the motel cat which has decided to sun itself on the narrow tarmac strip leading to our room.

From this base, we headed over by plane to the world-famous, gold medal winning Milford Sound (which is actually a fjord as it was formed by a glacier as opposed to a river...)

Returning from Milford by air, we fly over the Shotover river - a stretch of water we'll see a lot of in the next few days as we go River Surfing, Ride a Jet-boat at great speed up its canyons and go White Water Rafting.
