On the outskirts of Siem Reap is a large warehouse filled with ancient antiquities and artefacts.

It is closed to the public - entry is by signed approval of the King of Cambodia himself alone.

Fortunately, the guards have taken it upon themselves to allow not only those bearing the Kings approval, but also those bearing a ten dollar bill. So see the artefacts we did...

Having spent a few days walking around the temple and seeing the occasional good carving or statue (most have been defaced by Khmer Rouge soldiers or chipped off to sell in Thailand), it was a welcome surprise to find hundreds of faces, relief carvings and statues in perfect condition within the compound.

Our interest clearly excited our guide as we were invited into the 'inner sanctum' to view the most treasured pieces, including a wonderful stone bowl with a tiny figure of a woman carved within. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos here!
